Frustrated too..it used to be so easy to add another picture from one of you albums to the pic you're working on, now it's alot of trouble.
And after 3 days of playing around with the new stuff, I wish they had just added new features to the old instead of changing it to this mess.

Updated? I'd say downgraded...this is crap compared to the old editor.
Why take away something that people counted on and replace it with this?
Especially with no warning, people were caught in the middle of projects and now have no way to finish them unless they go somewhere else.
Try FotoFlexer...it's the old editor from PB...you have to save your work on your comp then upload it to PB for the codes though.
That is...till PB screws the coding up or the album features.
I don't feel safe and secure on this site anymore. Years of work and memories feel threatened.
Is this what you wanted PB?

    Now what do I do?
Sorry Pixlr...I've given you 4 days of my time trying to figure your tools out...I hate it, I don't want it, and it will bring PB to it's pixilated knees

Pointless for me without the merging tool, it was great fun to be able to make pics with other pics now it is a waste of time even being here with the new updates can do anything I have tried but, I am just wasting my time..

    • It's preference.

I've used Pixlr and it just can't do what I want it to do. If I get it anywhere close I hate the result...it's frustrating and time consuming.

My kids use it at school. It's what they LEARN on. I learned basic photo editing a long time ago and I miss the shortcuts Fotoflexer had.

I hate the fact that you need to go through so many steps to do something that was so easy before.

I have perfect control of my mind and I have perfect control over the old editor and this one, I just don't like this one.

If you never used the other editor then there is no way you can wrap your brain around why so many people are mad.

All I have to say about Pixlr is, "Nice fonts."

why did you decide to loose the loyle users of PB to take on a crappy thing liuke this? i used the old system to merge pics to create props for a game i play and now that option is gone. I will just move on and delete my account with PB over this.

I agree. This whole change threw me off. I was looking forward to an easy and fast project for work where I can combine 6 pictures together to save some paper and money for us and I've spent the last 10 minutes trying to figure out how to merge photos. There doesn't seem to be an option to do that and on top of it, even though it shows an edited and cropped photo, when I click on it to edit it further, it shows the entire picture again. Really? Why is EVERYONE technologically related changing everything?! This is really frustrating!

Hi, I have come to this Pixlr site just by accident from a non related site. I do not know how the old editor you are talking about differed from the current one, but as for combining two or more pictures into one seems to me fairly straightforward in the new (current) on.
The working is identical to Photoshop.
EXAMPLE - for adding 2 pics into one file window:
    1) Open the two pictures in TWO "File / New file" windows.
    2) Make sure they are both at the same RESOLUTION, ie.: 72, 300, or any resolution you
wish. You can RESIZE the one you are moving later, to fit with other.
    3) With the "Marquee" or "Lasso" tool select the whole, or part of the picture (Picture 1)
you want to ADD to the other one (Picture 2), using "Edit / copy" from the Menu bar at
    top of the screen.
    4) Click on the (Picture 2) to make it active.
    5) Click on "Edit / paste" from the Menu bar, and click on the (Picture 2), to copy the
selection from (Picture 1) to (Picture 2).
    6) In the "LAYERS" window click the padlock in "Background" layer to unlock it. The text
    will change to "Layer 0".
    7) Click on "Layer 1" which will change to blue colour, indicating it is active layer.
    8) Using the "Move tool - top R/H in "Tools" palette, adjust the selected image within the
    (Picture 2).
    9) Making sure the "Layer 1" is still selected(blue), using "Edit / Free transform" you can
adjust the shape, size, and using any other tool, like clone, blur or whatever.
    10) When you are happy with all the adjustments, click "Layer / Flatten image" to finalise
the picture. You can still edit the final image as one, but not the separate layers, which
    effectively have been lost.
Using 3 or more pictures, the procedure is the same, except you will have more layers,
ie.: one for each picture, to adjust and manipulate.
ALL THIS MAY SEEM COMPLICATED, BUT IT IS PRETTY STRAIGHTFORWARD.
THE ENCLOSED SCREENSHOT HAS TAKEN ME 4 MINUTES TO MERGE THE
CAT AND BEE PICTURES. IT IS A BIT ROUGH, BUT IT WASN'T A SERIOUS
EFFORT, JUST AN EXAMPLE IT CAN BE DONE WITH "PIXLR".
    ALL THE BEST, HAVE FUN!

    • I found Fotoflexer. Pretty cool! I see the option it offers that Pixlr doesn't. So why not use both? I am a graphic designer as well as build websites (Wordpress) and I most certainly do not use one program for my graphic design. Even video editing, I may use 3 or 4 different pieces of software. Each one has it's pro's and con's, but knowing them opens up so much creativity!
    • Just read through these comments for features we miss. =)

Pixlr is like starting from scratch after having the old shortcuts. Everything was on the worktable and there was no need to lasso or open another file.

Kinda compares to a box cake mix v/s starting with grinding your own flour.

I just don't have the extra 20 minutes it takes to get where I would have started with Fotoflexer. Then to do it all over again for the next picture I want to use. =(

Just look up how many tutorials there are for Pixlr, then look them up for Fotoflexer.

  • Addition to the K.Diblicek post. Easier still, just open two or more pictures, decide which you want to move to the background image or blank file, use "marquee or lasso" tool, select it, and with the "Move" tool
DRAG it to the other picture or empty "File / New file". You can the adjust it just as you like with any tool.
Just tried it, works like dream. All done in about 90 seconds.
Do have go, see how easy it is. All the best, Karel.

  • So instead of choosing another picture and "click" and it's there, I now have to open 2 different windows, lasso OR marquee it, use another tool to move it to a "file"...
Seriously, it was a lot easier on the old one.
My kids use Pixlr at school and had to have a class just to learn to use it half assed. I used to help them finish projects with the tools on PB because they weren't near as complicated.
It wasn't right that they changed it without a warning. There are other sites similar to Pixlr and people chose PB because of the simplicity of use.
It's like you have to have a college major in graphics to be able to use this one.
    • Lolol, seriously, it's not that hard!
Your pictures can't be that good if you're using an online program. Get GIMP or Photoshop.
Pretty much all you can do online is add effects and text. The updated version is helping people who wanted Photoshop but couldn't afford it.
Everyone is acting like this was the only online editor.
    • It was the only online editor alot of people used.

I haven't made 1 satisfactory result with Pixlr.

Yea, text and effects were part of it. But there was also "smart cutout" and "easy collage", layering was a snap, adding pictures wasn't complicated and we had a community of users helping users. (now deleted and locked for comments.)

Not 1 time did I have to look up a tutorial.

And this is after years of making signatures and custom icons for people, many on a daily basis, and being excited to log on and make more.

      Not now.

    Hey All,

Could you tell me how you used to work with additional images?

I'm gonna add the possibility to add own images on top of the open image in express. Just like stickers, would that be a good solution?

    • it used to be so easy to change the background on photos with photobucket in two easy steps.

Step 1) All I would do was click "add another photo"
Step 2 ) then simply use the eraser tool
to erase the background in the top photo.

The photo in the back then became the background. That was it. Simple and effective.
Here is an example of my finished work using the old editor.

      http://www.etsy.com/listing/96989863/...

I liked photbucket because it was simple, user friendly and straight forward. This new step up is not. ALso it would be helpful if there were tutorials on how to use this. I feel like I am totally screwed now because I used this for my job. I seriously would pay money to use the old photobucket!! oh well.

  • You could open up any album and add another picture.
You could make the new picture or the old one translucent and overlay it or edit the picture in almost any way {crop, cut, layer, frame, distort, beautify, soften, resize, ect.) you could make a collage with as many pictures or images as you wanted to without having to open a file or a new window or having to save anything till you were done. Everything was right there in front of you at hand.
Also text could be layered behind a cut out and made bigger than the cutout or pic.
Right now you can only go as big as the pic you have.
I'm sure Pixlr can do close to the same thing...but it's so much trouble it feels like going the long way around to do something that used to be so simple.

    It's apples and oranges here.
The two tools are so different to use it has shocked a whole community of users used to something they knew and loved.

  • The "more options" we wanted were for the OLD editor. Things like new fonts, ect., we didn't ask you people to dump the one we loved and depended on and make a site we used daily unusable and time consuming.

Making a collage with Pixlr is like pulling teeth compared to how easy it was with the other one.

We loved the ease of use, the simplicity, the quickness of putting our ideas together, the awsome results...you took that all away and gave us something so complicated and unfun that we are leaving en-mass to find something similar to what you took from us.

FotoFlexer is picking up the ball PB dropped.

    http://fotoflexer.com/

Pixlr is rediculous, here's what used to be a few clicks on PB to merge 2 photos on Pixlr.

Step 1 - Choose the image you want as the frame -
    Step 2 - Choose Advanced Editor -
    Step 3 - Step 3 Select All
Step 4 - Cut the background (Control and X - Cut)
Step 5 - Paste the cut and create a layer one. ( Control and V = paste)
Step 6 - Edit - Free Transform to resize the frame if you want.
Step 7 - Pull the blue boxes on the bounding box to size in Free Transform. Hit enter when happy:)
Step 8 - Have Two Tabs Open
A - The current edit tab.
B - Your album/account open in another to choose the fill image
Step 9 - Open your album tab.
Step 10 - Select your image and copy direct link code.
Step 11 - Choose File - Open Image URL
Step 12 - Remove all text from url box - use control and P to paste your direct link code - OK
Step 13 - You will have 2 separate edit boxes
Step 14 - Do Control and A to select all of the image you want to paste into the frame.
Step 15 - Click the X to close. Choose No. No need to save.
Step 16 - Do Control and V to paste the image. You will see a new layer appear.
Step 17 - Drag the frame layer over your posted image. You want it in front.
Step 18 - Go to the Frame layer - use the magic wand to select the white area. You will see a bounding box of your selection. Anything inside that box is what you have selected.
Step 19 - Hit delete on your keyboard to erase the selection.
Step 20 - Do Control and D to deselect. Bounding box will disapper.
Step 21 - Adjust your layers to ensure the image is under the frame.
Step 22 - Choose the image layer - Edit - Free Transform to adjust the image in the frame.
Step 23 - Use the blue boxes on the bounding box to adjust the size for a better fit.
Step 24 - Hit Return when you are happy with the transformation.
Step 25 - Choose File - Save when you are happy with the edit.
Step 26 - Name your file - choose ext - choose quality - OK.
Step 27 - You will see your newly created image in your main album. You can move it if you like.

Seriously...27 steps to do what was only a few steps on the old editor, and that was just for one!

It be different if Pixlr came up with something new and cool...but this is the same crap I don't use on my computer already.
If you think paying customers are going to stay on PB for this broken peice of rubbish...you have a rude awakening ahead of you...and possibly ruined one of the best sites on the web.

  • I tried it myself before I posted and it did exactly what I and he said it did.
And why are things that people need being added now?
I'm not putting your editor down, I'm just stating the simple fact that it's not doing what the old one did with ease and simplicity, and if it wasn't a finished product and you have to keep adding things after you put it out for all to use...where's the new and improved editor PB says we have now?
Seems to me we went backwards to a basic one.
This is the same one they use in our public schools.
    • So just to be 100% clear I do not work for Photobucket. Pixlr has been around for 4 years and it is the most popular online editing service in the world.

If you learn how to use our advanced app the possibility for creativity can't be found anywhere else online. Just because one don't know how you do something don't mean that the tool is broken or crap.

We are always adding new features to the apps and right now we listening to all the thing the photobucket users miss and try our best to make sure we support those needs. Apps like this are never finished.

We added 4-5 new features the last week, a Photobucket Library in the Advanced editor will be launched on Monday so adding new images from you account will be really simple as well as saving to a certain folder.

Collage and other features are also in the works.

So giving us constructive feedback will help us understand what is hard to do or understand in our apps.

In the meantime you can check out thousands of tutorials on how to use pixlr editor and do awesome things.

  • I know how to use it.

I know Pixlr has been around for awhile, my kids use it at school.

I HAVE tried Pixlr in the past and I preferred and came back to PBs old editor.

The reason I'm upset is because not 1 customer was asked their opinion before the change.

When I started with the old editor, I never had to look up a tutorial to figure something out. Your offer of "thousands of tutorials" just puts me off even more.

I'm sure your editor can do wonderful things...what I'm saying is that not everyone has the time to create something with it. The old editor was fast, effective, and user friendly and what used to be fun now feels like work.

It's the difference between driving a car that's manual and one that's automatic. Some people love the clutch and shifting gears and have learned when to shift up and down...but others prefer the automatic, with it's ease and simplicity and not having to think about what the transmission is doing, they just want to drive.

I wish you and your company all the best.

    This editor sucks.
I don't want to have to spend hours trying to do things that would have taken me less then 10 minutes on PB. I simply do not have the time. I have used it before, but I always could rely on PB for a fast way to do some simple things. Now I have to sit down and try to figure out where everything is and what all of them do. I think it is complete bull that we didn't have any choice over this. If I'd known this would be the new editor I would have said something about it. This just ruined my day. • I’m very frustrated!
I loved Photobucket because it was so simple, but now everything I'm used to is gone!

I used the same font on all of my photos for my Etsy shop (over 1,000 photos!), and now I can't figure out how to add new text using my old font. I want the same look I've been using for years and my customers are familiar with.

I also can't figure out how to create a collage using multiple photos like I used to. I need to be able to do this to save space in my Etsy shop because they only allow 5 photos per listing. This was a very important feature that was really simple to do, and now it's no longer there.

I read that you (Photobucket) is listening to what the users want, so please make the old editing tools available again. I have too much time invested to start all over. And I also don't have time to go through dozens of tutorials to learn how to use a new system - I have to make a living. The old tools were fast, effective, and user friendly for the rest of us who are not experts in the world of photo editing. PLEASE change it back!

All I wanted was more fonts and cloning ability. I got that but I lost the ability to merge two images easily and to make easy quick masks. I don't want to join a graphic arts subculture to do things I used to be able to do simply and effectively. I guess I'll just have to figure out how to use GIMP and merely store my photos on photobucket. The lack of support is frustrating too. For $25 a year I'd think I'd get more support than I am.

I hate, hate, HATE it ! I used to be able to do things quickly and easily here and now it's a NIGHTMARE !!!!!
The new text options are great ,but everything I came here for is now GONE !
It would have been nice to get some sort of notice before yanking it all away.
Now I need to go elsewhere. Darn you PB !

How about bringing back the old and adding some new ?

I think that was initially the improvements wanted by the PB community.

New fonts and ect. on the OLD editor that we all knew, loved, and came to PB for.
Not a whole new editor that took away the reason we came to PB to begin with.

This forum is for Pixlr though and your complaint is falling on deaf ears.

Not that PB gives a crap about how unhappy everyone is either...they deleted tons of pissed off non-paying and PAYING customer comments in their "Help" forums on this Pixlr editor and they quit answering pm's.
They are trying to hush everyone up...

They will however point you to the thousands of tutorials on how to use Pixlr. Not that we needed even 1 tutorial on the old one...

  • Lol!
Complaining about them changing the main reason I had a pro-account isn't whining.
It be different if it WAS new, but it's the same old Pixlr it was when we didn't use it before.
Too much work for bad results. I don't have the time to start from scratch when before it was so easy.
New isn't always necessarily better. And secretly switching a tool I paid for to this stuff was dirty.

  • I have used the old editor for years and IT WAS the reason I became a PAYING photobucket member. If I wanted to learn Photoshop or any intense software I would have done so. Today was my last attempt to figure this crap out. Photobucket served me well for years and I enjoyed the available OLD editor. This new crap will be the reason that I will start looking today to find a new place for my picture storing and editing. I DID NOT NEED more work; I needed the easy and reliable editor you had.
Now I have to start from square one thanks to your so called upgrade.
    • you don't need photobucket to use pixlr. Got to pixlr.com/express for simple stuff and pixlr.com/editor for the other. The editor is free. You can use these programs away from photobucket and let me tell ya ... it is so much less hassle.

And I do understand that you dislike the editor, it's just too bad you paid for photobucket for the ability to use it.

For $75 a month with the ability opt out at any time, you can use the entire adobe creative suite; illustrator, photoshop, Dreamweaver, in design and what ever else they offer, from the adobe cloud. For $45 a month paid in full for 12-months without the option to opt out you can also use the Adobe Cloud. I'm not promoting Adobe, but just sayin' because this is what I am looking to do when I can afford it -- it';s far cheaper than buying the product and having to download it onto your computer.

Another free option is the 30-day trial offered by adobe products. That would give you 30-days of use of photoShop to learn the program.

      Just some suggestions..... Good luck.

  • Karen: You gave very clear directions and I am wondering if you could help me too. I am following what you said (totally new at this) and when I adjust one photo to place it on the other one, they BOTH are resizing. I think I need to somehow lock one of the layer so my changes dont affect them both. Help

Maybe this is an idea: go to
    http://pixlr.com/express/ and then click collage
Now you can choose how many photos you want on a print
    Succes P.
