Save Image Format Selection disabled and set to PNG

I am unable to select the "format" type when saving an image. The "format" dropdown is "disabled" on the "save image" dialog and pre-selected with the "PNG" format. Previously I have been able to select the "format" type from the dropdown (e.g. "JPG"). Any ideas as to what the issue might be?

  • I'm guessing you are using pixlr from somewhere else, then they have locked the type to prevent users to change it.

go directly to pixlr.com/editor/ to have no restrictions.

  • Ola - thanks for the reply, but your suggestion for direct location didn't fix my issue with the drop down. That's where I've been working from.

    The steps to re-create
"Save (upper left corner of screen) doesn't add a file extension like .jpg."
    - Browser: Chrome
    - Edits made: crop, reshape, text, filters
    - Then the following:
When I click save it shows the file name and quality, but no file extension. Understandable. Next when I click save again (below quality) it takes me to a windows pop-up to save on my computer. On that pop-up there is no file extension on the file nor an option to select a file type from the drop down menu below the name of the file you are trying to save. For people who do not know any file extensions, this is going to become one of those problems that could turn them away from using pixlr. The only way correct is to type in a file extension like ".jpg" Most non-tech savvy folks who are using this and trying to learn won't have a clue why their pictures they saved (an etsy banner for example) won't be able to upload to etsy and they may think it's a problem with etsy or pixlr, but won't know.

  • Why can't you just select an area (Firefox) using the Pixlr-Grabber add-on, and SAVE TO DESKTOP and select a JPG format?

Why is it not an option?
